Kim's Game

Over spring break, children played Kim’s Game at Emily Carr House by drawing the ‘trinkets on the tray’ and then they wrote stories about these artifacts.
“….Whence he returned with a copper tray…from a drawer under the table [he] dealt a half handful of clattering trifles into the tray. ‘ Now….look on them as long as thou wilt, stranger. Count and, if need be, handle. One look is enough for me.’ He turned his back proudly.

Here are some samples of the Children's work:

‘But what is the game?’

‘When thou hast counted and handled and art sure that thou canst remember them all, I cover them with this paper, and thou must tell over the tally…”

This is Kim’s Game from the book Kim by Rudyard Kipling. It is set in India, The Jewel in the Crown of the British Empire. The young protagonist, Kim, learns to hone his skill and memory with this game.
