I thought spring was here. It came for a few days the sun was out and people were out walking their dogs as I sat near the window looking out, but today was still winter. I guess that is why I have had not much to say, the weather has made it so. I have no wish to go out and get my paws wet. So I get most of my entertainment from the windows, ah so many windows and nothing is going on. Well, there is a black thing in the neighbours back yard, big and black! And some white, you would think it was being a copy cat when it saw me. But my human seems to think it cute and funny when it chases its tail. Please. Like that is cute? Lying down in a sunny spot all stretched out like a panther or a lion now that is cute. But I guess until the weather gets better this is all I have, I’m off to find someone who will love me up.

Christmas is now gone from Carr House, for some it is over when Boxing Day comes. But here it stays awhile longer, all the decorations are taken down, the greenery sits in the compost, the trees go back into their boxes to sleep for another year, and all the rooms are clean. I miss the boxes and the excitement, I know it will be back again but it still is sad to watch them be piled in the van and taken away. January is a sad month. But right now I will go sleep and when I awake I will be in a much better spirit. A nap can cure anything.

I did not see him at first, if you didn’t know where to look then you could have missed him. My human held me to the glass and told me to look, and that if I saw him, wisdom would come to me. So I stared, and slowly his head moved to stare at me and his feathers ruffled, I had never seen anything like it. I heard my human say it was an owl and that is was very strange to see one sitting on our fence in the day time and for so long. Hours past and still the owl sat- moving his head left and right. The rain tore down on him and he seemed not to notice Then he must have thought it was his time to go. He stretched his wings and was gone.

The tree still shines, and the parlour is still warm but Christmas has now passed, gone for another year. Oh, it was a wonderful Christmas full of laughter and treats. People came in and out through our doors with offerings of all kinds, and carols were played softly in the background. Christmas really is my favorite time of year, for each Christmas, Santa brings me catnip that I can enjoy while my humans unwrap there own presents. Yes, Christmas is truly wonderful and I’m always sad to see it go but I know it will come back next year more glorious than the last.

There she is again, wandering the yard. I’ve caught sight of her now several times, always with her nose to the ground. Always sniffing. I’ve yet to have an encounter with this creature but I watch it from my window way up high. She wanders from one corner of the yard to the other always sniffing. No feathers so not a bird, and no cat I’ve ever seen looks like that. What lanky legs and such a long snout. No cat would ever look like that. Oh, it looks up. It sees me, I must not move. It sniffs the air then goes back to the dirt and walks away. There is something new in my neighbourhood.

Christmas is starting at Emily Carr House, the boxes are being brought into the rooms, each filled with different decorations. Early? No not at all, things must be ready for the first week of December. Trees must be assembled, angels must be hung, and boxes must be explored! Oh here’s a big one! I wonder what could possibly be in it? Maybe I will have a quick look. JUMP! THUD! Nothing! This box is already empty, what ever was in here now has a place in one of the rooms. Doesn’t matter. JUMP! THUD! I will find another box. Oh here’s one a little smaller, but it could have many treasures. JUMP! SOOSH! Oh it’s a box of ribbon all different kinds. Look mommy, look human I’m a mummy cat now just like the Egyptians. Oh! Now what is in that box? JUMP! THUD!

It’s been awhile since I have written something. How pawful of me. It is difficult when the house is no longer open, I have no visitors to entertain myself with. But this is a sacrifice I make each year for the greater good. I sometimes think what’s the point of grooming when no one will see it? Then again I think of my coat being dirty and it sends shivers down my spine. I miss the sun, the warmth on my face as I sleep, now the out doors is cold, cold and damp. My paws don’t find this satisfactory, not at all. How would a human feel to go out in their bare feet? No, I will stay indoors for most of the day now, until winter turns to spring. My family can enjoy my presence.

I sit next to the jack-o-lanterns with their eerie glow, and cause tricks instead of treats. I am the eyes you feel on the back of your neck but when you turn you will not see me. Oh yes, I enjoy Halloween night, when ghouls and ghosts sing together. Be warned when you ascend our stairs and knock on my door, for who knows what you will let out.
Who does he think he is? Oh wait! I can’t see him anymore, I must go to the next window. Ah, yes, there he is still strutting and pecking the ground. He should go back to the park. Now what? People are taking his picture. Oh yes he is colourful and look at the shine on his feathers, But he’s really just a big turkey. A turkey I could eat if I wanted too but I have decided against it. Oh, he sees me! I must duck out of view. What’s he doing now? Yes, that’s right colourful turkey leave my gates and go back to your park I don’t want to fight with you today. I have better things to do in my warm house.
