The Season is Almost Here

Tomorrow is the BIG day! We open our doors for the season. My brother and I are getting ready, resting up in the sun and washing behind our ears. We must look perfect for all the visitors. You may see us if you come and pay a visit but don’t be discouraged if you don’t. We like to prowl the gardens or take a nap out of sight. It will just mean you will have to come back. We look forward to seeing you this season.

The Beginning is Near

Ah, March is almost over. For some this means, Easter and that April is almost here, so there fore the spring cleaning must start, but for us it means the house is almost open! That is right, one more month and then visitors will be welcomed into our home for another year. The doors will be open so we can go as we please in and out. Visitors with their cameras will take our picture and scratch our ears. Our humans are in a bit of a panic but not us, we are just sitting and waiting and then it will be time. How we look forward to the 1st of May, it can’t come soon enough.

Spring Cleaning!

My home is in ruins! Everything has been moved, none of the rooms make sense any more. There use to be a chair, here in the corner by the window. Gone I tell you. It’s now sits over there by the wall. Boxes, boxes everywhere and not a single one to climb in, what is the point then of so many boxes? And the cleaning- all my humans are cleaning. Washing windows, scrubbing floors, vacuuming carpets. I’m down here at your feet and you are not paying attention to me, when oh when will this house be in order, again?

Oscar Night

Ah films, I do love them, because I know that when my family sits on the couch and puts in a movie it means they will be there awhile. I have seen many great films this way, from watching Disney enchant us to a world of magic and fairy tales, the black and white film noir of the Maltese Falcon. I have cried (though I try not to show it) at the end of a Streetcar Named Desire, and laughed as Danny Kaye does a dance across the screen in pants that keep falling down. Oh yes, I have seen many films. Some good, some bad, some terrifyingly terrific and others that should never have left the studio. So when the Oscars come on I enjoy them just as much, not really for the awards- that never seemed to interests me, but for the fact that my humans will be watching them, and that means from 6 o’clock on, they are not going anywhere. Yes, I love the movies.

Love is All Around Me

I can feel love is in the air, how do I know this? My humans are talking constantly about pink and red candies and how chocolates become more desirable when they are in a heart shape box, or so I am told. I am cuddled everyday and get kisses on my nose. They tell me I am beautiful and how lucky they are to have me in their lives, I meow back a ‘Thank you’ and that I love them ,too, with a deep purr. They have used a word called Valentine’s? They say it’s once a year in the month of February, I look at my human confused and try to tell her with my eyes, that this Valentine’s is not once a year, but every day of my life.

It’s Almost the End of January

The end of January is almost here and another year living inside the walls of Carr House. I get a little melancholy around this time, outside is grey and the rain is just rain that ruins my fun of going outside. I will perk up, give me some time, soon I will be running these halls going from room to room, making sure the work is done right. But for now, I think I will go to sleep, then eat, then sleep some more.

January Blues

Another year living inside the walls of Carr House. The Christmas decorations are coming down, the floors are being washed and the mantels are getting a dusting. The house must be ready in case of any unexpected visitors. I get a little meloncoly around this time, outside is grey and the lights are coming down, rain is just rain that ruins my fun of going outside. I will perk up, give me some time, soon I will be running these halls going from room to room, making sure the work is done right. The Actors are Coming

Christmas Carol will be starting soon, the actors will be preparing, the guests will be arriving and the apple cider will be brewing. Yes it does sound nice. I won’t be allowed down during the performance too many people make me a little nervous, and my humans worry if I will get out into the cold. But the nice thing about a Victorian homes is sound does travel so I still will be able to listen to the play with my ear to the wall. It’s a tradition for me every year to enjoy a production of A Christmas Carol, may I suggest it becomes one of yours?

Emily Carr was born on this day 141 years ago. She would have been able to see so much had she lived to this day. She would have seen her paintings sell for millions, art schools named after her, statues erected in memory of her. Most importantly she would have had the pleasure of knowing my brother and me, and how she would have loved us. She would have painted the pair of us, and I can tell you if she had, she would have made millions when she was alive. But if tonight you find yourself eating a piece of cake or drinking a glass of champagne give a toast to Emily on her birthday, because no one’s birthday should be forgotten even if they are not here to celebrate it with us.

Baby it’s Cold Outside

It’s getting cold these days, no sign of snow, yet, but it doesn’t take away from the wind that brushes against my fur. It’s the reason I have been staying in, I don’t do cold. I enjoy my sun and sunny spots, still it’s not so bad. Christmas time is already here; my brother Whiskers helped with the decorating while I watched lending a paw when it suited me. But the house does look beautiful, you should come and see it and take in a play. I hear A Christmas Carol is very good, and that there will be cookies and apple cider, I like my cat treats and cream but they do smell really good.
